The recent finale of the DCU series, Lanterns, has concluded its eight-episode run, leaving viewers with significant revelations. The series, which introduced the Lantern Corps to the new DCU, focused on the investigation into Hal Jordan's death.
Set across two timelines, 2016 and 2026, the season finale revealed that Sheriff Kerry impulsively shot and killed Hal Jordan. Her motive was to protect her son, Noah, who is secretly a Manhunter. Hal had discovered Noah's true nature after saving him from firebomb injuries and went to inform Sheriff Kerry, leading to the fatal encounter.
Despite Noah's initial confession and request for a mercy killing, John Stewart spared him. Stewart understood that Noah, due to his upbringing, was different from traditional Manhunters and allowed Sheriff Kerry to care for him, while subtly indicating his knowledge of her role.
John Stewart's own journey is set to continue. He has accepted his role as the independent Green Lantern of Sector 2814, while also taking responsibility for Earth. He charges his ring with a Sinestro-made lantern, signifying a new phase in his heroic endeavors.
While Sinestro had previously mentioned the possibility of reviving Hal Jordan, the season finale provided no indication of this occurring. However, with unresolved plotlines involving Sinestro and Noah, and reports of a second season in development, the Lanterns' saga is far from over.
