The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is currently hosting LAIKA, the acclaimed stop-motion studio. LAIKA has launched an exhibition titled "Wildwood: Discovering a Handcrafted World," which will be on display until September 27. This exhibit offers attendees an in-depth look at the creation of their forthcoming fantasy film, "Wildwood."
Travis Knight, director of "Wildwood" and head of LAIKA, is attending the festival for the first time. He described "Wildwood" as the studio's largest and most personal universe yet, emphasizing art over algorithms. The exhibition highlights a miniature Pittock Mansion set and an impressive "General" puppet, notable for its 3,794 individually placed feathers and its first-ever articulated wings for a LAIKA puppet.
The "Wildwood" exhibition serves as the prelude to the film's global rollout. The movie is scheduled for release in the United States on October 23 via Fathom Entertainment. Festival organizers expressed pride in welcoming LAIKA and Knight, citing the studio's artisanal vision and the unique significance of Knight's inaugural visit to Annecy.
