The show stars Dutch actress Holly Mae Brood as Julia, a young designer sent to Barcelona by her powerful mother on a covert mission to sabotage a rival agency.
Julia finds herself captivated by the city's energy, her new role, and a romantic entanglement with two men. The series, comprising eight half-hour episodes, is a collaboration between Millstreet Films, Videoland, and Beta Film. It follows their previous successful projects, "Maxima" and the upcoming spin-off "The Other Royals - A Maxima Story."
"La Vida Barcelona" explores themes of ambition, identity, and the courage to forge one's own path, particularly within a modern mother-daughter dynamic. Director Medina Mora describes the series as a story about self-discovery, where Barcelona's culture and possibilities help Julia break free from expectations and explore her true self amidst insecurity and ambition. The series is supported by various film funds, including the Netherlands Film Fund Production Incentive and the Spanish Tax Rebate.
