The GuadaLAjara Film Festival is set to enchant Los Angeles with its annual celebration of cinema from November 5-7. Venues across the city will host a curated selection of films, promising an engaging experience for cinephiles.
The festival will commence with the premiere of Diego Luna's "Ashes," a compelling narrative about a young woman navigating discrimination and family ties in Spain. This opening night event is scheduled to take place at the United Theater.
Highlighting the festival's core, the Centerpiece Gala will feature Ava DuVernay's insightful Netflix documentary, "14th." This film critically examines recurring constitutional crises and their historical underpinnings, offering a profound look at America's ongoing evolution.
Concluding the event, a special 35mm screening of Eddie Sánchez's "Mexicanamerican" will be presented at the Linwood Dunn Theater. The film poignantly recounts the journey of a Mexican couple who found the American Dream but gradually drifted from their heritage and language.
Ximena Urrutia, GLAFF executive director, expressed pride in showcasing films that honor diverse cultures and represent exceptional work from Mexico, Latin America, and beyond. The festival lineup features U.S., West Coast, and international premieres, celebrating both emerging and established filmmakers.
