L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch Dies at 59 After Cancer Battle

Jennifer Finch, the bassist for the influential grunge band L7, has died at the age of 59. Her passing was confirmed by the band on July 18, following a prolonged and courageous fight against brain cancer. Finch had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease, which led to unforeseen complications, multiple surgeries, and significant physical limitations.

To support Finch during her battle, a GoFundMe campaign was established. This initiative garnered widespread support, exceeding its goal and raising over $390,000. The funds are designated for essential needs such as in-home nursing care, physical and speech therapy, and medical equipment. Additionally, a portion of the funds will help preserve Finch's artistic legacy by creating an archive of her work and completing a planned creative project.

Finch joined L7 in 1986 and was a key member of the all-female lineup. She also contributed to other musical projects, including The Shocker and Other Star People. Despite her health challenges, Finch's wish was for L7 to proceed with their "Last Hurrah" tour, scheduled to begin in October, which the band had previously announced would take place without her.

Friends and fellow musicians, including Joan Jett and Courtney Love, publicly supported the fundraiser. Finch had been aware of the outpouring of support from her fans and peers. Her impact on music was described as seismic, and her personal impact even greater. Loved ones have requested privacy to heal during this difficult time.
