The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) Industry Days commenced on Monday, highlighting new film projects. A significant focus was placed on selected queer stories through a collaboration with Midpoint Institute's Midpoint Focus Queer program.
This initiative supports filmmakers exploring queer narratives. Four distinct film projects were showcased in development, representing a range of genres and geographical settings, demonstrating the growing diversity in cinematic storytelling.
These showcased films included 'Nuusiku,' a Namibian-French production exploring identity and spiritual roots; 'Selamlik,' a Swedish-Danish drama about a Syrian couple's enduring love amidst exile; 'Skeeter,' a Canadian queer horror film delving into the AIDS crisis era; and 'Unholy,' a Greek comedy set against the backdrop of Mount Athos.
Each project offered a unique perspective, from historical meditations and tales of resilience to critical explorations of societal norms and personal identity, underscoring the festival's commitment to diverse voices in filmmaking.
