Kristin Hersh, a seminal figure in US alt-rock, is preparing for the release of her latest solo album, 'Sugar on Blackstone,' on September 18. This new collection of songs explores profound themes such as "life and death, enrichment and poverty, and the small but defining moments of childhood that continue to echo through adult life." Hersh's career spans five decades, beginning with the influential band Throwing Muses in the early 1980s. Her distinctive vocal style and melodic yet edgy sound, alongside peers like Pixies and Cocteau Twins, marked her as a key artist of the dreampop and college rock era. Following Throwing Muses' hiatus, Hersh developed a more spartan solo sound and formed the band 50 Foot Wave, while also pioneering direct-to-fan funding with Cash Music. Throwing Muses reformed in 2003 and has released four additional albums since. To support 'Sugar on Blackstone,' Hersh will embark on a comprehensive UK and Ireland tour beginning September 26, with subsequent dates scheduled for Europe and Australia. Fans have the opportunity to submit questions about the new album and her extensive career for publication in the Film & Music section on August 7.
