Academy Award-winning composer Kris Bowers is set to score the music for Disney's upcoming animated feature, "Hexed." This magical coming-of-age saga stars Hailee Steinfeld and follows a teenage girl who uncovers secret magical abilities, leading her on a spectacular journey through a hidden realm. The film is scheduled for release on November 25, 2026.
Bowers described his approach to the score as one of exploration and experimentation. He drew inspiration from the protagonist's dreams of flying, utilizing unusual sound-making methods such as bird call whistles, wind wands, and even transformed recordings of birds. The resulting score is a unique blend of orchestral elements, an effected chamber woodwind ensemble, synthesizers, and natural sound textures.
Directed by Daniel Chong and produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle, "Hexed" aims to capture both the intimacy of a mother-daughter relationship and the wonder of its magical world. Bowers also recently composed music for Netflix's "Steps" and the upcoming Paramount film "Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story."
