On November 22, 2025, the anthology film "Koraput: An anthology of four short films" will have its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji, Goa. The 120-minute film, titled "Maliput Melodies," is Odisha's sole entry among 25 films selected for the 'Indian Panorama' section at IFFI. The film was chosen from 1,098 submissions across the country.
"Maliput Melodies" features four episodes - "Kanophulo" (earring), "Rangomati" (red soil), "Baido Karia" (music group), and "Village Marriage" - that blend stories of friendship, brotherhood, music, and traditional customs deeply rooted in the culture of southern Odisha. The film was written by Sudhakar Patnaik and directed by Vishal Patnaik.
Sudhakar Patnaik, the writer, said that "Maliput" is an imaginary village inspired by Deomali, Odisha's highest peak, and Koraput, where every tale reflects the beauty, struggles, and spirit of the local people. Vishal Patnaik, the director, added that their goal was to tell stories that are deeply rooted in the soil yet universally relatable, and the film's selection at IFFI proves that authenticity has its own power.
