Hindu College recently experienced the vibrancy of Koodiyattam, India's ancient theatrical tradition dating back over two millennia. SPIC MACAY organized a powerful solo performance by maestro Margi Madhu Chakyar, showcasing the art form's profound spiritual and interpretive depth. This UNESCO-recognized heritage was presented to students, highlighting its relevance as a "living present."
The recital featured Chakyar masterfully embodying multiple avatars of Lord Vishnu, accompanied by traditional percussionists. His performance of the Sanskrit play Balacharitam, composed by Mahakavi Bhasa, captivated the audience. Students lauded the immersive experience, noting the powerful connection felt when witnessing the art form live.
Koodiyattam's subtle expressions and storytelling were highlighted as beneficial for fostering patience and concentration among youth.
