As of October 5th, 2025, the city of Kolkata is gearing up for its annual Durga Puja Carnival on Red Road, a highly anticipated event that showcases the city's vibrant cultural heritage. The carnival, which takes place this Sunday, will feature a spectacular display of music, color, and dance, with nearly 113 puja committees set to dazzle the crowds.
Organizers have pulled out all the stops, blending professional performers with local talent to create a truly mesmerizing experience. One highlight of the event will be a performance by a group of percussionists from outside the state, who will be representing the Ballygunge Cultural puja committee. "We did not want to do another dance performance. Instead, we will present a musical performance with beats that will be so vibrant that it will set the Red Road on fire," said architect Anjan Ukil, the secretary of the puja committee.
In addition to the percussionists, several puja committees, including Chetla Agrani, Suruchi Sangha, and Tridhara, will have dancers performing to their respective theme songs. Some committees, like Hatibagan Sarbojanin, have even hired professional dance troupes to take the stage, while others, such as Behala Natun Dal, are tapping into local dance schools and practitioners to showcase their talents.
As Kolkata bids farewell to the goddess Durga, the city is poised to put on a truly spectacular show, one that will leave a lasting impression on all who witness it.
