Kolkata is set to honor the legacy of Birendra Krishna Bhadra, the legendary radio broadcaster, narrator, and playwright. A significant proposal is underway to declare his ancestral home in Shyambazar a heritage site, a move aimed at preserving his invaluable contributions. This initiative was discussed during State Minister Agnimitra Paul's visit to Bhadra's family on his 122nd birth anniversary.
Further plans include potentially renaming the Shyambazar Metro Station in his honor, a request made by Bhadra's family. Minister Paul also indicated a proposal for a statue of Bhadra at Akashvani Bhavan, the very location where his iconic dawn broadcast, 'Mahishasuramardini,' first aired on September 22, 1931. These measures signify a deep respect for Bhadra's profound impact on radio broadcasting.
