Kolkata's cultural vibrancy has been amplified with the inauguration of the Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre on AJC Bose Road. This new sunlit gallery space signifies a renewed eastern presence for the Akademi, established in 1954 to foster India's visual arts.
Senior artist Subhaprasanna expressed optimism, stating the centre will be another haven for creative minds and aspiring artists in the city. The opening coincided with the commencement of the 3rd Print Biennale India 2026.
This month-long event, running until February 15, has transformed the new centre into a global printmaking hub. It features 1,449 entries from 204 artists across 34 countries, exhibiting a wide array of printmaking techniques from woodcuts to experimental forms.
