Professional surfer Koby Abberton has made an alarming public plea for assistance in relocating his 10-year-old son, Makua, from Byron Bay. Abberton shared a video of people swimming near a large group of sharks in Byron, urging anyone in the area to take his son immediately. This comes after his ex-partner, model Olya Nechyporenko, moved Makua to Byron Bay earlier in November, having previously lived together in Bali.
Abberton expressed devastation over the separation from his son, who relocated with his mother to Australia. Nechyporenko had announced their search for a home in the Byron Bay region around early November. The former couple met in Bali in 2011 and were engaged in 2015. Their split reportedly occurred sometime in 2023.
Abberton has often emphasized his parenting philosophy focused on self-reliance and mental strength. He previously shared a video of sparring with Makua, stressing the importance of fathers building their children's confidence. His unique approach to safety was highlighted when, after Makua was rescued from a rip, Abberton urged his son to 'never get rescued again,' emphasizing the need for him to be self-sufficient in dangerous surf conditions.
