Summary
- A village chieftain seeks riches from an exiled minister.
- He unexpectedly shelters the deposed young king Yi Hong-wi.
- Yoo Hae-jin's performance anchors the film's varied tones.

In a 15th-century Korean setting, village chieftain Um Heung-do discovers an exiled minister's residence brings prosperity. Driven by ambition, Heung-do seeks his own exiled official, but instead encounters a pasty-faced youth on a palanquin.
This youth is revealed to be the deposed King Yi Hong-wi, whose royal retinue was eliminated, making him too conspicuous for similar treatment. As counter-rebellion brews, Heung-do realizes his new royal ward will bring trouble instead of riches.
The film initially explores ironic comedy about ambition but shifts genres to a sentimental two-hander, then to social commentary on inequality. It concludes as a political thriller when the king rallies support for a fightback.
Despite its disjointed narrative, the film is elevated by Yoo Hae-jin's energetic and subtle performance. His portrayal of Heung-do, initially desperate but showing underlying integrity, anchors the story's blend of satire, sentiment, and social commentary.
