Sushil Meher, an accomplished stage actor with prior roles such as Ravana, has been chosen to portray King Kansa in the upcoming 78th Bargarh Dhanu Yatra. His selection followed a competitive audition process where 36 out of 44 candidates vied for the role, impressing judges with their vocal modulation and stage presence.
Meher conveyed his excitement and thankfulness for this significant opportunity, noting the multilingual dialogue delivery and the chance to showcase his talent. The festival committee announced the names of actors after a three-day audition. This marks Meher's debut on the Bargarh stage, though he has performed extensively elsewhere.
Dhanu Yatra, celebrated as the world's largest open-air theatre, is scheduled from December 24 to January 3. For eleven days, Bargarh city will be reimagined as Mathura, with the Jeera river becoming the Yamuna and Ambapali transforming into Gopapur, vividly recreating the ancient saga.
