Blackburn's historic King George's Hall, a 104-year-old cultural landmark, is scheduled to reopen in autumn 2026 after a comprehensive £9 million refurbishment. This major renovation is part of a larger £20 million investment aimed at revitalizing Blackburn's town centre and Cultural Quarter. The venue has been undergoing significant work since January, focusing on crucial structural and aesthetic improvements.
The extensive works encompass the replacement of the hall's roof, internal alterations, and substantial enhancements to its bars, restrooms, and flooring. Furthermore, improvements to the heating and ventilation systems are being implemented to ensure a modern and comfortable experience for visitors. The exterior of the building is also seeing improvements as part of this revitalisation effort.
Despite the closure for renovations, the hall has hosted significant events like the National Festival of Making and the British Textile Biennial, animating the space and drawing footfall. The venue, which previously hosted legends like The Beatles and Queen, last underwent major renovations in 1994 and is eagerly anticipated to welcome back audiences with its revitalised facilities.
