The world premiere of "The Standard of Living," a new play by James Graham, will feature Rory Kinnear as the influential economist John Maynard Keynes. Royal Ballet principal Natalia Osipova will make her West End debut, starring opposite Kinnear as the celebrated ballet dancer Lydia Lopokova.
The production is set to run for 12 weeks at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket. Previews commence on Sept. 21, with the official opening night scheduled for Sept. 29, and the final performance on Dec. 12. The play delves into Keynes's multifaceted life, balancing government work with his involvement in radical artistic circles and his romance with Lopokova.
James Graham expressed his enthusiasm for exploring Keynes's impact across politics, economics, and the arts. Director Nicholas Hytner, reuniting with Graham, and actors Kinnear and Osipova shared their excitement for bringing this story of a "world-builder" to the stage.
Brian and Dayna Lee, producers of the play, highlighted Graham's skill in transforming historical events into compelling theatre and praised the bold, original writing. The creative team also includes set designer Bob Crowley.
