Spacey Disputes Illness in Insurance Trial
11 Mar
Summary
- Kevin Spacey testified in an insurance dispute trial.
- He denied claims he was unable to return to House of Cards.
- The trial concerns $100 million in losses from his firing.

Kevin Spacey recently testified in a California Superior Court regarding an insurance dispute tied to his dismissal from "House of Cards." Media Rights Capital, the show's production company, is seeking $100 million from its insurer, Fireman's Fund, due to losses incurred after Spacey's termination in November 2017.
Contrary to expectations, Spacey contested the assertion that a sexual compulsion disorder prevented him from fulfilling his role. He alleged his dismissal stemmed from the company's embarrassment rather than a medical condition, directly disputing medical records and expert testimony presented by MRC. These records, according to an expert witness for MRC, indicated Spacey was unable to perform his duties as Francis Underwood.
The legal battle stems from Spacey's firing after allegations of misconduct surfaced. An arbitrator previously found Spacey breached his contract, ordering him to pay $31 million, later reduced to $1 million contingent on him providing medical records. Separately, Spacey faces ongoing litigation concerning multiple sexual misconduct allegations, with three civil claims scheduled for trial in London in October 2026.
