Kesha Backs K-pop Group NewJeans in Ongoing Legal Battle with Label
31 Oct
Summary
- Korean judge rules against NewJeans' efforts to break free from label ADOR
- Kesha expresses support for NewJeans on social media
- NewJeans members say they cannot return to ADOR due to "shattered trust"

As of October 31st, 2025, the K-pop girl group NewJeans is embroiled in an ongoing legal dispute with their label ADOR. Earlier this week, a Korean judge ruled against NewJeans' attempts to break free from their seven-year exclusive contract with ADOR, following the dismissal of their mentor, Min Hee-Jin, as the CEO of the label.
In response, pop star Kesha has expressed her support for the embattled group. Kesha, who has her own history of high-profile legal battles, posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying, "My heart is with you NewJeans," accompanied by a single red-heart emoji. While Kesha has no direct connection to NewJeans, she can empathize with the group's struggle to maintain artistic freedom amidst a legal dispute with their label.
In a statement shared by the Korea Times, the members of NewJeans have stated that they "respect the court's judgment, but it is impossible to return to this company and continue normal entertainment activities in the current situation where the trust relationship with ADOR is completely shattered." The group had previously attempted to rebrand as "NJZ" and debut a new song, "Pit Stop," before ADOR challenged their use of the new name.
The legal battle between NewJeans and ADOR is reminiscent of Kesha's own decade-long struggle with her former producer, Dr. Luke, which also involved competing lawsuits and the pop star's efforts to be released from her contract. Kesha's experience of having to continue working with someone she was in litigation with, and the "head-f-- of all time" that it caused, likely resonates with the members of NewJeans as they navigate their own legal predicament.
