The Thalir-Varnolsavam arts festival, organized by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare, commenced on Saturday in the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram. The two-day event is providing a platform of hope, creativity, and joy to children living in government and private children's homes across the district.
The festival, held at the Council Hall in Thycaud and the Government College of Music, features students from lower primary to higher secondary levels. Over 400 children from 20 children's homes, including Sree Chitra Home, Mahila Mandiram, Balika Mandiram, Government Children's Home Poojappura, CMS Kannammoola, Karunyatheeram, and CSI Balika Mandiram Parassala, are taking part in the competitions.
Unlike conventional school arts festivals, the Thalir-Varnolsavam event stands out as a celebration of togetherness and self-expression. The highlights on Sunday will include events such as folk songs, film songs, mono act, mimicry, folk dance, group dance, and cinematic dance. The council has arranged food and facilities for all participants and visitors from the various homes.
