Bekal Gokulam Goshala, a goshala (cow shelter) in Kerala, is hosting its 13-day Deepavali Music Festival from October 20th. The festival, which is in its 15th year, celebrates the divine confluence of art and devotion through musical worship offered to the sacred Gomatas (cows).
This year's festival places a special emphasis on the veena, with a concert led by Udupi Pawana Achar featuring five veenas. The festival will feature performances by around 400 artists from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Singapore, and Dubai, who will offer their music in devotion to the Gomatas.
The goshala, which was established in 2010 with just one Vechur cow and one Vechur bull, has now blossomed to nurture over 250 cows of nine indigenous breeds, including Vechur, Kasaragod Kullan, Hallikar, and Malanad Gidda. The festival is organized by Parampara Vidyapeetham, an institution dedicated to promoting India's classical fine arts while preserving and protecting native cow breeds.
