NY Times bestselling author Kennedy Ryan has entered into a first-look deal with Universal Studio Group (USG), marking a significant expansion of her work from literature to television. Under this agreement, Ryan will develop and produce television series across various platforms through her Scribe Chick Media banner, in addition to creating original intellectual property for USG to adapt.
The first project under this new partnership is a series adaptation of Ryan's successful novel, "Before I Let Go." This contemporary romance, the inaugural book in her "Skyland" series, focuses on Yasmen and Josiah Wade, a couple navigating their separation and evolving relationship. The series is currently in development at Peacock, with Ryan serving as co-writer and executive producer alongside Malcolm D. Lee.
Ryan expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity, highlighting its potential to amplify stories that resonate with underrepresented communities and shepherd works by other authors from page to screen. This deal represents a pivotal moment for Ryan, who has a history of literary success, including multiple Audie Awards and NAACP Image Award nominations for her romance novels.
