In a special interview, acclaimed actor Ke Huy Quan has revealed that he will be voicing a new reptile character, Gary the Snake, in the highly anticipated Disney animated film Zootopia 2. Set to release in November 2025, the movie will see Gary arrive in the diverse city of Zootopia with a purpose - to clear his family's name and bring them home.
Quan, who has portrayed a range of memorable characters over the years, from Short Round in Indiana Jones to an Ouroboros in the Marvel universe, is excited to be part of one of Disney's most celebrated franchises. "I've been a major fan of Zootopia since the first movie released nine years ago," he tells interviewer Nakia Richardson. "To now get the chance to actually be a Disney animated character is a dream come true."
Zootopia 2 will explore the impact of Gary's arrival, as the city's predators and prey alike go "completely bananas" over the presence of a reptile. However, Quan's charismatic performance is expected to transform Gary from a feared intruder to an unexpected source of emotion and empathy. As the director notes, "the minute you see Gary talking, I'm like 'Oh, that's Ke.'"
With a star-studded cast and the return of acclaimed directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard, Zootopia 2 is poised to continue the franchise's tradition of using its unique animal world to address important social issues. Quan believes the film will cement its place among Disney's classic animated features, solidifying his own status as a Disney legend.
