Ke Huy Quan: Memoir reveals life's winding path

Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan is set to publish his memoir, "Never Say Die," on September 15. The book chronicles his extraordinary journey from his family's escape from communist-ruled Northern Vietnam to their new life in Los Angeles.

Quan's narrative traces his initial rise in Hollywood, including roles in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and "The Goonies," followed by a prolonged period away from acting. He returned to the spotlight at age 49, earning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2023 for "Everything Everywhere All at Once."

The memoir, written with considerable difficulty, aims to share his experiences and encourage others. Quan expressed his hope that his story will demonstrate that "the path is not always straight" and that passions can be rediscovered.

He also shared his motivation for writing, influenced by an image of a crowded intersection that highlighted how little people know about each other's internal struggles. Quan hopes his book fosters greater self-compassion and kindness among readers, recognizing that everyone carries a unique story.

In addition to his memoir, Quan is reprising his role as Gary De'Snake in the upcoming "Zootopia 2." He described voice acting as a rewarding new experience, utilizing voice and imagination to create characters.
