Katrina Kaif's Telugu Debut: Director's Casting Saga

Director K. Vijaya Bhaskar recently recalled the arduous process of casting Katrina Kaif in her inaugural Telugu film, Malliswari, released over two decades ago. He described the significant effort required to prepare Katrina, who hailed from a distinctly different cultural background, for the nuances of a traditional Telugu character.

Bhaskar explained that Katrina's unfamiliarity with required mannerisms and body language posed a challenge. Despite these difficulties, he lauded her immense hard work and commitment to learning throughout the film's production.

The director's personal choice to cast Katrina after seeing her in an advertisement initially created complications for the producers. Securing her involvement proved difficult, with initial agreements facing subsequent disagreements even after an advance payment was offered.

As Katrina's participation remained uncertain, the production team explored multiple casting options. Suresh Daggubati reportedly met with numerous beauty pageant contestants for auditions and photoshoots, seeking the ideal actress to embody the princess role.

While Sonali Bendre was a strong contender, Vijaya Bhaskar insisted on a fresh face to ensure the audience perceived the character as a true princess, rather than associating her with an established star. This decision ultimately contributed to Malliswari's success, solidifying Katrina Kaif's presence in South Indian cinema.
