Katie Holmes Honors James Van Der Beek's Family

Katie Holmes recently spoke candidly about her relationship with James Van Der Beek's family at the Tribeca Festival on June 7 in New York City. The two shared a unique experience as young adults starring in the hit series Dawson's Creek.

Holmes expressed her deep affection for Van Der Beek's family, stating, "all of my memories are for his family and for each other. I'm more protective than ever of that time." She recalled their formative years together, filled with laughter and shared adventures.

Joshua Jackson also shared his reflections, cherishing the opportunity to see Van Der Beek as a husband and father. He noted, "His final form was his perfect form, so that's what I'll always take away."

James Van Der Beek passed away from colorectal cancer in February 2026. In 2024, he had publicly shared his stage 3 diagnosis, which followed painful bowel movements discovered during a colonoscopy.

Holmes' tribute included a handwritten letter expressing gratitude for his presence and shared journey, writing, "To share space with your imagination is sacred." She praised his bravery, compassion, and the beautiful family he created with his wife, Kimberly, with whom he had six children.
