Actress Kathy Bates has shared that she almost missed out on starring in "The Waterboy" and "Matlock." Initially, she discarded the script for the 1998 Adam Sandler comedy because she was unfamiliar with the actor. It was only after her niece identified Sandler through his popular "Hanukkah Song" that Bates gave the script another chance, leading to a highly enjoyable filming experience.
Bates also admitted to nearly passing on the role of Madeline Matlock in the legal drama "Matlock." She confessed to not initially reading the full screenplay and considering it a mere procedural. However, upon her friend's urging, she finished the script and discovered a significant twist, which ultimately convinced her to accept the part. The series has since been renewed for a third season.
