Summary
- Monthly Kathak events aim to promote traditional dance forms.
- Manisha Mishra's performance depicted Lord Shiva and Radha-Krishna.
- New initiative encourages youth to explore Indian classical dance.

A 'Kathak Sandhya' event was recently held at the Rai Umanath Bali auditorium, celebrating the rich tradition of Kathak dance. This cultural evening was a collaborative effort by the Birju Maharaj Kathak Sansthan (BMKS) and the UP culture department.
The event's primary performer, Manisha Mishra, captivated the audience with her artistry. Her performance was deeply rooted in spiritual themes, featuring presentations based on the sacred mantra 'Om Namah Shivaya,' beautifully portraying various aspects of Lord Shiva.
Mishra concluded her performance with a poignant rendition of the thumri, "Dagar beech kaise chaloon, pag roke Kanhaiya." This piece tenderly illustrated the bond between Radha and Krishna, resonating with the audience.
To foster the continued growth and appreciation of Kathak, BMKS chairperson Kum Kum Dhar Chowdhury announced that similar programs will be organized monthly. This initiative aims to promote the traditional dance form and inspire younger generations to explore their cultural heritage, steering them towards classical Indian arts instead of solely focusing on Western dance styles.
