Kathak Kendra Dazzles at 'Naman' Festival

The city of Lucknow recently hosted 'Naman: Parampara Kathak Ki,' a two-day cultural festival honoring the renowned Kathak maestro Pt Lachchhu Maharaj. This significant event, organized jointly by the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi and Kathak Kendra, successfully concluded on Tuesday.

The festival served as a vibrant platform to showcase the rich heritage of the Lucknow gharana. Attendees were treated to classical compositions, expressive 'abhinaya,' complex footwork, and engaging rhythmic 'jugalbandis.' Young dancers from Kathak Kendra, guided by Neeta Joshi, opened the event with 'Guru Kripa,' earning praise for their synchronized performance.

Further performances included 'Kathak Ke Rang Krishna Ke Sang,' exploring Krishna bhakti under Shruti Sharma's direction, and Rajni Verma's 'Jhoola,' based on a composition by Pt Bindadeen Maharaj. Artists like Sumitra Harmalkar from Indore and Nandkishor Kapote from Pune presented distinct gharana styles, including captivating jugalbandis. The event underscored the importance of such festivals in preserving classical traditions and nurturing young artistic talent for future generations.
