Kate Winslet's Surprise Directorial Debut

Kate Winslet has stepped behind the camera for her directorial debut with the upcoming Christmas family drama, 'Goodbye June'. While originally planning to only produce and star, Winslet found herself directing the film written by her son, Joe Anders. She expressed her initial reluctance, stating she "cannot do three jobs" on one production.

Winslet actively sought to recast the directorial role, identifying several strong candidates. However, Netflix rejected the idea, and Winslet felt compelled to direct given her involvement with the cast. She conveyed her respect for directors and believes this experience will enhance her support for future directors she works with.

The film features an ensemble cast including Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, and Helen Mirren. 'Goodbye June' is set to premiere on December 24 on Netflix, following the story of four siblings during the holidays as their mother's health declines.
