The 17th KASHISH Pride Film Festival commenced on Tuesday evening at the iconic Liberty Cinema in Mumbai. This edition strongly emphasized queer visibility, drawing notable personalities from the arts and film industry, including Dolly Thakore, Arunaraje Patil, Konkona Sensharma, and Parvathy Thiruvothu. Hosts SeduQtress SoniQa and Anuj Talpade energized the opening with a tribute to Asha Bhosle.
Festival director Sridhar Rangayan highlighted the importance of maintaining queer spaces amidst challenges, stating Kashish serves as a beacon of hope and a platform for advocating LGBTQ+ rights. Actor Konkona Sensharma was presented with the Rainbow Voices Award by Shivendra Singh Dungarpur for her authentic portrayals of queer characters, expressing gratitude for the honor and praising the festival's community-building efforts.
Parvathy Thiruvothu presented the Rainbow Champion Award to the Aravani Art Project, a trans-led collective recognized for their impactful murals that enhance transgender visibility across India. The evening also featured captivating Kathak and Lavani performances. The festival runs until June 7, showcasing 153 films from 43 countries, alongside discussions and masterclasses.
