Court Restrains CarryMinati From Defaming Karan Johar
11 Feb
Summary
- A Mumbai court ordered YouTuber CarryMinati to stop posting defamatory content.
- The order came after Karan Johar filed a civil suit against the influencer.
- The court noted that vulgar statements were made and ordered Meta to remove links.

In a significant legal victory, a Mumbai Sessions court has prohibited YouTuber Ajey Nagar, popularly known as CarryMinati, from disseminating allegedly defamatory material concerning film-maker Karan Johar. This order, issued by Principal Sessions Judge PG Bhonsale, stems from a civil suit initiated by Johar via Dharma Productions CEO Apoorva Mehta.
Johar's legal team argued that videos uploaded by social media influencers contained vulgar and abusive statements that severely impacted his reputation. They stressed the need for immediate intervention, even after the original videos were removed, due to continued circulation through user-generated content like reels.
The court, finding prima facie evidence of defamatory statements and vulgar language, granted an ad-interim injunction. This temporary restraint applies to Nagar, his manager Deepak Char, and unnamed individuals, preventing further publication or circulation of damaging content against Johar until the interim relief application is fully heard.
