Kantara Prequel Crosses $1M in North America in Just 2 Days

As of October 4th, 2025, Rishab Shetty's Kantara: Chapter 1 has made a promising start at the North American box office. The prequel to the 2022 Kannada blockbuster Kantara has managed to cross the $1 million mark in just 2 days.

According to the latest reports, the film earned $810,000 on its opening day, including premieres. It maintained a good hold on the second day (Friday), pushing the total collection to $1.2 million. The Telugu version of the film contributed the largest share of the business, reflecting the significant Telugu diaspora in North America.

While the numbers are not earth-shattering, they are considered a decent start for the prequel. Given the tremendous success of the original Kantara, expectations were high for the prequel. However, the film still has a long way to go to achieve breakeven at the North American box office, which is reportedly set at $9 million. This means the film needs to earn an additional $7.8 million to cover its distribution costs in the region.

The next few days will be crucial for Kantara: Chapter 1 as it aims to capitalize on the positive word-of-mouth and attract consistent footfalls.
