The ISKCON temple in Kanpur is preparing for its Janmashtami celebrations, scheduled to take place from September 4 to 6. A significant highlight will be the Radha-Krishna deities, who will be dressed in a collection of six specially designed outfits with an estimated value of Rs 5 lakh. These exquisite garments are the result of a collaboration between international designers from New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Thailand, and skilled artisans from Vrindavan.
Preparations for these elaborate outfits began six months to a year prior to the event. Expert designers associated with ISKCON temples globally contributed to the designs and ensured precise fitting for the deities. The intricate embroidery, patterns, and decorative elements were then meticulously executed by Vrindavan's artisans. The temple aims to provide devotees with a profound spiritual experience through continuous floral decorations, devotional chanting, and the distribution of Mahaprasad during the three-day festival.
Devotees can participate in the Kalash Abhishek ritual at noon and 4 pm daily. The main grand abhishek will be performed at midnight by senior saints and ashram devotees. To ensure uninterrupted celebrations despite the rainy season, a large waterproof tent has been erected within the temple premises.
