On October 21st, 2025, a statue of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu was unveiled in Somwarpet, Karnataka. Kuvempu, the celebrated poet laureate from the state, is renowned for his vision of universal brotherhood and his significant contributions to Kannada literature.
The event was organized by the Kuvempu Statue Construction Committee and the Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat (Kasapa). Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda unveiled the poet's statue, which is placed in front of the taluk Kasapa Bhavan. Gowda emphasized Kuvempu's message of love, truth, and equality for all communities, and stressed the importance of following the poet's guidance for societal harmony.
Former minister BA Jeevijaya praised Kuvempu's literary works, particularly his acclaimed work 'Ramayana Darshanam', which showcased the essence of humanity. Former MLA Appachu Ranjan also highlighted the need to preserve Kannada literature and continue Kuvempu's legacy. The idea for the statue originated during the 2006 Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, according to JC Shekhar, the president of the statue construction committee.
