Kani Kusruti: Bold Actress Lives Unconventionally

Malayalam actress Kani Kusruti is recognized for her distinctive personality and challenging roles. Born to social activists, she pursued theatre and physical theatre training in Paris. Kusruti famously adopted the surname 'Kusruti,' meaning 'mischievous,' at age 15, as her parents had dropped their surnames. This decision stemmed from her parents' stance against caste-based social hierarchies.

Her acting career began in theatre, transitioning to films like 'Kerala Café' and 'OK Computer.' Kusruti garnered significant acclaim, winning Best Actress at the Kerala State Film Awards and the Moscow International Film Festival for her role in 'Biriyani,' where she also controversially appeared nude as per her character's demands.
