Kangana Ranaut has shed light on the pervasive patriarchal attitudes prevalent in Himachal Pradesh, noting that families often react with unhappiness to the birth of a female child. She shared her dismay on X, formerly Twitter, after a video surfaced of a woman who endured multiple pregnancies to finally have a son, having previously given birth to ten daughters.

Ranaut described the situation in Himachal as particularly challenging, recounting an instance where relatives visited a cousin's home to offer condolences following the birth of a second baby girl. The distressed cousin expressed to Ranaut that she felt people were treating her as if someone had died. This societal expectation and subsequent emotional toll highlight a severe dehumanization of women, reducing their worth to the sole purpose of bearing a male heir.

Furthermore, Ranaut detailed another distressing case where a cousin's wife fell into depression after her second child was also a girl. Despite supportive family and husband, the woman struggled to accept the baby, requiring hospitalization. This trauma extended to the elder daughter, illustrating the profound and often devastating impact of such deeply rooted biases on multiple family members.
