Japanese production and finance house K2 Pictures has announced a significant funding achievement, raising a total of $100M. This includes the successful closure of their first film fund, K2P Film Fund I, which amassed $33M from institutional investors like Mitsubishi UFJ Bank and the Development Bank of Japan. Additionally, the company secured $67M in debt financing.
This new financing model, founded by Muneyuki Kii, breaks away from the traditional production committee system. By utilizing institutional investment, K2 Pictures aims to facilitate greater international collaboration. The fund has already completed three films, with one released in February 2026. Three more are in post-production, and five are slated for release between June and December 2026.
Among the diverse slate is Takashi Miike's documentary, 'Shumei - The Living Legacy of Kabuki.' This film focuses on Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjūrō XIII and his historic name succession ceremony. K2 Pictures also revealed other projects, including 'The Nuke Crab,' a social noir set in Fukushima; 'Gigant,' their first animated feature; and international co-productions like 'NAP' and 'Mexican Horror.'
