Summary
- Rapper Ksmartboi sentenced to 8 months in jail last year for marijuana use

- Factors like age and remorse led to lighter sentence

In October 2025, it was reported that rising Korean indie rapper Ksmartboi had previously been sentenced to 8 months in jail last year for marijuana usage. The incident occurred in May 2024 when Ksmartboi and a friend were caught smoking the illegal substance in a Seoul parking lot.
South Korea has strict laws regarding drug use, and Ksmartboi was charged under the Narcotics Control Act. The Seoul Eastern District Court initially sentenced him and his friend to 8 months in jail. However, Ksmartboi later filed an appeal, which was heard in April 2025.
The Seoul High Court's 1-1 Criminal Division, led by Chief Judge Maeng Hyun Moo, overturned the initial sentence. Ksmartboi and his friend were then sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year probation period. The court cited their age and signs of extreme remorse as factors that made them eligible for a second chance at rehabilitation.
