Phoenix Waters Prods. is set to film "K-Pop Out of Time" later this year, a cross-border musical feature connecting the U.K., Hong Kong, and Korea. The film's narrative follows a modern K-pop idol who, after being accused of plagiarism, finds himself in 1980s Hong Kong. He subsequently falls in love with the original songwriter of the song that disrupted his career.
The musical score will feature both the golden age of Cantopop and modern K-pop, composed by Christopher Lai. Karen Yip, an award-winning designer, will oversee the visual styling. Casting for the lead roles is currently underway, with open auditions planned in Hong Kong and Korea soon.
Beyond the film, producers intend to expand "K-Pop Out of Time" into live concert events, aiming to establish a wider entertainment franchise. This project is part of Phoenix Waters' strategy to develop commercially driven intellectual property with international appeal across Asia. A recent memorandum of understanding with Korean studio MOFAC aims to strengthen ties between the Hong Kong, Korean, and British screen industries.
