Former Chief Justice of India, Justice Dipak Misra, was recently honored with the prestigious Kalinga Ratna Award. The award, presented by the Sarala Sahitya Sansad in Cuttack, included a silver idol of Goddess Saraswati and a citation.
During his acceptance speech, Justice Misra underscored the foundational values of fraternity, human dignity, and peace. He reflected on the enduring connection between individuals and their native land, stating that one's birthplace significantly shapes identity and memories.
Misra elaborated on the constitutional value of "fraternity" as a moral imperative that bridges differences in caste, creed, and social status. He asserted that true individual dignity is achieved through mutual respect and humanity, not by diminishing others.
Furthermore, the former CJI spoke against the destructive consequences of war, noting that while conflicts may produce apparent victors, they invariably leave behind suffering and hatred for generations. The Sarala Sahitya Sansad also presented the Sarala Samman to eminent litterateur Dr. Ramachandra Behera for his extensive contributions to Odia literature.
