Jumma Chumma's Wild Shoot: Kimi Katkar Thrown 20 Feet!

The creation of the iconic song 'Jumma Chumma De De' from Amitabh Bachchan's film 'Hum' involved a demanding 15-day shoot at Mumbai's Mukesh Mills. Choreographer Chinni Prakash recounted the intense conditions, including a dangerous sequence where actress Kimi Katkar was unexpectedly propelled 20 feet by a powerful fire engine nozzle. This sequence, intended to be playful, caused Katkar to fall and sustain injuries, halting the shoot temporarily. Despite the risks and the awkwardness of being the only woman among 2,000 men, Katkar displayed remarkable resilience.

The logistical challenges were significant, with the fire engine positioned below the shooting floor and no immediate way to stop the water flow after 'Cut' was called. Communication relied on shouting, and running downstairs was required to manage the water. Throughout this demanding period, Amitabh Bachchan showed unwavering commitment. Even while recovering from an operation, he never used his health as an excuse, readily agreeing to multiple takes to achieve the perfect choreography.

Jaya Bachchan's enthusiastic reaction to an early preview, calling the dance 'iconic,' boosted Amitabh's confidence. Chinni Prakash credited producer Romesh Sharma for assembling the talented team, humorously referring to himself as a 'crack.' The arduous yet unifying experience concluded with the entire unit sharing an emotional farewell to Mukesh Mills, having collaboratively created a song that would become a defining moment in Bollywood history.
