Summary
- Oscar-winner Bille August will direct a new series on Julius Caesar.
- The series will explore the leader's intoxication with power.
- Filming is scheduled for early 2027 in Italy.

Director Bille August, known for his Oscar-winning "Pelle the Conqueror" and recent hit "The Count of Monte Cristo," is preparing a new series focusing on Julius Caesar. This ambitious project aims to explore the story of a powerful leader and the psychological descent that follows absolute power. August emphasized the contemporary relevance, noting Rome's history as the first democracy undermined by a dictator.
Produced by Italy's Palomar, the series, tentatively titled "Julius Caesar," will film in Italy starting early 2027. Palomar's CEO, Carlo Degli Esposti, highlighted the importance of portraying Caesar's contradictory nature—ambitious, generous, yet cruel—especially in today's world.
The series joins a history of adaptations exploring Caesar's life, including HBO/BBC's "Rome" and TNT's "Caesar." August's previous success with "The Count of Monte Cristo" garnered record ratings in Italy and wide international sales.
