Director Julius Avery, known for "Overlord" and "The Pope's Exorcist," will direct the upcoming survival thriller "Crush" for 20th Century Studios. This project represents the first major update since the studio acquired the spec script by John Fischer last fall.
The plot of "Crush" is currently under wraps, but sources indicate it focuses on a woman hiking alone in the Everglades. She awakens to find herself ensnared by a massive python, battling for her life in a real-time struggle against the serpent's deadly grip. The film is reportedly inspired by actual events.
John Fischer, an executive at Temple Hill Entertainment, wrote "Crush" on spec, initially posting it anonymously on the Black List. The script quickly garnered attention, leading to representation and a multi-studio bidding war. Temple Hill is producing alongside Scott Glassgold of 12:01 Films.
