Gebeka Films has obtained the French distribution rights for the animated feature 'Julián,' set to premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this month. The film, produced by Ireland's Cartoon Saloon, is an adaptation of Jessica Love's popular children's book, 'Julián Is a Mermaid.'
The story centers on seven-year-old Julián, who uncovers his Caribbean heritage and learns he is a mermaid. This acquisition by Gebeka Films follows previous international deals for the film, including distribution in Ireland, the UK, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, and Norway.
'Julián' marks the feature directorial debut of Louise Bagnall, who previously earned an Oscar nomination for her short film 'Late Afternoon.' The production also boasts Academy Award winner Zoë Saldaña as an executive producer. Release dates for France are yet to be announced.
