Julie Andrews Declines Princess Diaries 3 Role

Julie Andrews, aged 90, has confirmed she will not be reprising her iconic role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the forthcoming Princess Diaries 3 film. The beloved actress stated that she feels she is "past all that now," dedicating her current energy to writing books, recording podcasts, and voiceovers. Although she is no longer seeking on-screen film roles, Andrews expressed genuine excitement for the creative direction of the third installment, acknowledging the work of writer Meg Cabot and star Anne Hathaway.

Disney officially announced plans for Princess Diaries 3 in 2022, with Anne Hathaway confirming her return as Mia Thermopolis in October 2024. Andrews, who played Mia's grandmother in the original 2001 hit, was offered a part in the new movie but ultimately declined. She conveyed that while it was challenging to say no, she felt it was the right decision given her career stage and confidence in the film's potential success without her involvement at her current age. The first Princess Diaries film recently marked its 25th anniversary.
