A watercolour painting by Dame Judi Dench has achieved a remarkable £6,900 at a charity auction held in Surrey. The "Supper With The Stars" event, hosted by the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, successfully concluded on Wednesday, with the proceeds earmarked for the theatre's vital creative learning programme. This initiative focuses on supporting vulnerable community members across Surrey.
The painting, a depiction of the Scottish Highlands completed in 2025, is noted as one of the last works the acclaimed 91-year-old actress was able to create due to her failing sight. The funds raised will directly contribute to youth and community projects, including the theatre's expanding youth theatre programme set to launch in September, aiming to offer free places to participants.
Other notable items at the auction included a collar and bow tie worn by Sir David Suchet as Poirot, which sold for £650, and a piano lesson with composer Simon May, which garnered £700. An Albert Square road sign signed by the EastEnders cast also contributed to the fundraising, selling for £275. The entire event generated over £65,000 for the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
