Jordan's Film Industry Soars with 45% Cash Rebate and Flexible Permits

Two weeks ago, Jordan's film industry was highlighted as a fast-growing player in the Middle East and North Africa region. The country's Royal Film Commission has been actively promoting Jordan as a prime filming destination, with a newly revamped cash rebate system that can grant productions a return of up to 45% of local spend, plus additional tax benefits that can lead to combined savings of up to 56%.

This incentive, coupled with the commission's efforts to streamline the permit process, has made Jordan an increasingly attractive option for international productions. Crews from the U.S., the U.K., and other major European countries can now shoot in the kingdom with only a quickly issued entry visa, without the need for a work visa.

The commission has also made it a priority to promote the country's archaeological sites for filming, simplifying the permit process and ensuring there are "no red lines" for foreign productions. This has allowed Jordan to double for a variety of ancient and otherworldly settings, from the Mars-like landscapes of Wadi Rum to the historic streets of Amman's downtown.
