- Filmmakers explore "Fear is universal. Monsters are personal" themes.
Monkeypaw Productions and Universal Film have announced the second iteration of their "No Drama" filmmaker initiative, a program designed to discover and nurture emerging genre storytellers. This year, the initiative partners with American Cinematheque, offering a substantial $50,000 grant to up to three selected filmmakers.
The program invites prospective filmmakers to submit short film scripts exploring the themes "Fear is universal. Monsters are personal." The goal is to develop these concepts into feature-length projects, with finished shorts premiering at Beyond Fest 2027. Monkeypaw and Universal will retain a first-look option for further development.
Submissions are currently open on the American Cinematheque's website and will close on September 30 at 11:59 p.m. PT. This initiative builds on the success of the inaugural cohort, whose filmmakers have garnered critical acclaim, festival awards, and secured professional representation.
